Little Man learned to read before the school year ended. Things quickly progressed over the summer. He sounds out and learns new words every week. He can read words on tv. He recognizes words on menus and signs. I can’t even spell around him anymore. We have a lot of books around the house. Many are the ones I read to him when he was little. Others are what he refers to as baby books. He asked me to get some books just for him that he can read on his own. I did just that. Since our local Borders is closing down, I picked up some Level 1 books for a steal. Little Man is one proud reading machine.

Everyone told me potty training would be easier with a girl. Little Man got the hang of it right before his 3rd birthday. Little Bit mastered it this week, four months shy of hers. Technically, it was easier, but not by much. If there’s one thing I can be certain of, potty training makes me want to pull my hair out. Little Bit does everything her way. She showed interest in the potty several months ago. Her interest waned in a few days, so we assumed she wasn’t ready and stopped. Two weeks ago, she started taking off her diaper and using the potty when she felt like it. She was inconsistent, but making progress. This week I put her in big girl underwear. She's finally got the hang of it minus the occasional accident. Now, she prances around the house in her Dora the Explorer and Tinkerbell delicates like she owns the place.

Seriously, where did my babies go?

Ahhhh they are so cute...
Do I ever understand. My first baby is almost a foot taller than me & is studying for his freaking learner's permit. W.T.F.
And my baby? The actual smallest person in my house? Starts kindergarten in a week. Again, I say WTF.
your babies are growing up!! they are still adorable though!
AH DORA-BLE!!!! She still has a baby belly. I think that counts as baby.
The reading thing I can't help ya with. Congrats!
They will always be YOUR babies even if they aren't actually considered babies :-). They are so cute!
It's hard when you realize they're not swaddling babies anymore. Just a little hint from something I learned the hard way: 14~year~olds DO NOT like to be pulled onto your lap and rocked. It's not safe for you or for them. LOL
It is crazy (and sad) how quickly they grow, isn't it? Makes me want to have another baby... :{
When I think of becoming a parent I dread the potty training. My mom says it was the hardest thing!
I can't believe how much your babies have grown up since I started reading your blog.
I bet it's going to be hard to censor yourself now that Little Man can read. Hehehe. This may make for some entertaining blog stories.
So cute! And since you're riding the success of potty training, make a trip to my house and handle that situation for me because I'm just too lazy and my daughter is too willful!
Good job on the reading Little Man! Keep it up! Congrats on the potty training Little Bit...WTG! Micah finally decided to potty train, too, but it was HIS terms...not mine. He just woke up from his nap one afternoon and asked to go potty. He never looked back. :)
Ahhh your kids are beyond cuteness! I wish I could say that potty training has been going well with Kid#2, but really it sucks. He goes potty only when I prompt him and only #1....AND he starts pre-school Sept 1st (and he HAS to be trained by then!)
I don't know what to do to get him to go to the bathroom himself!? Kid #1 was so much easier! Srsly he just doesn't give a hoot whether he potty trains ever.... :(
Good times at your house!!! And cute pictures. I saw a bunch of Level 1 and 2 books in the $1 bins at Target yesterday.
Awhhhhhh these are so cute! I would like a baby now please. x hivenn
It's really not fair how fast kids grow up.
I love these babies!! Make them ALL stop growing!!
Its crazy how fast they grow!! Oh the joys of potty training. Luckily my lil man caught on quickly, however we are nowhere near getting trained through the nighttime...ugh!! He doesn't wake up for nothing.
Your kids are adorable!!!
Love the pics! They are completely adorable!
