Throwback Halloween

We kicked off Halloween like we do every year. We attended The Memphis Zoo's annual Zoo Boo celebration. I think this is the third or fourth we've gone. It was super crowded this year, but we had a blast as usual. Here are a few pictures from the evening. As you can see, my kids celebrated Halloween like it's 1994 as Simba and the Red Power Ranger.

Open Letter to Jessica Simpson

Dearest Jessica Simpson,

You do realize everyone knows you're pregnant, right?

You can tell your dad to stop shopping the story around.

No one's going to pay a lot of money for a story that isn't really a story anymore.

That's all. Good day.

My First DIY Yarn Wreath

During my blog absence, I found a new love. I've been on the Pinterest bandwagon for a while, but have yet to talk about it here. I could pin all day and all night. I ended up pinning several do-it-yourself wreaths a couple of weeks ago. I'm not a master crafter, but thought these looked easy enough. I bought the supplies at Michaels and had a little fun on a Sunday afternoon.

source

Supplies - foam wreath, dried flowers, yarn, ribbon, hot glue gun, scissors

Step 1 - Wrap wreath with yarn. You'll want to keep the yarn pulled tight. Tie a knot to start. Tie a knot to finish. Expect imperfections. The yarn won't come out perfect, but that's ok. From start to finish, it took me about two hours to wrap the wreath. I had to stop numerous times because my kids were driving me crazy. If I had gone uninterrupted, it would have taken me about an hour to complete. My hands and arms were definitely tired in the end.

Step 2 - Add embellishments. I was going to cut out felt flowers, but decided to skip this step since I'm a newbie. I hot glued three dried flowers onto the wreath. Easy peasy! {In case you haven't noticed, my first wreath is in Florida State colors.}

Step 3 - Add ribbon, twine, fabric, etc. to hang your wreath with.

Step 4 - Hang your wreath, take a step back and admire your work. Seriously, you have no idea how proud I am. It wasn't hard, obviously, but I did it all by myself!

Step 5 - Take pictures and share with your friends.

Proud of my Little Man

Little Man had some trouble adjusting to his new school this year. He came home daily and told us how much he didn't like it. Since he's only in kindergarten, this was a little disheartening for The Hero and I. I kept telling him it would get better. I told him he had to get used to the new faces. Once you get to know your teacher and make new friends, it'll be ok. With each passing week, things have gotten a little bit better.

This past week, Little Man was the Star Student of his class. If you're unfamiliar with this practice, it means the week was ALL ABOUT HIM. We made a poster with pictures of family and friends. We filled out a bio sheet so the kids could learn more about him. He took a stuffed dragon for show and tell. He got to take his favorite book and read it to the class. It was the first time since school started that I could see excitement in his eyes. He was happy to go to school every single day.

Just when I thought the week couldn't get any better, I opened his folder to find a surprise. My first born was named Star Student of the Month of the entire elementary school. He received a ribbon, a certificate and a coupon for free ice cream. {Can you guess which he was most excited about?} There was a note from the principal that said the honor was based upon his good behavior, caring attitude, good attendance, and hard work. The note also thanked us for raising a great child.

I know my kid is awesome, but it's always nice when others think so too.

Needless to say, kindergarten is totally starting to rock.

Hump Day Hotties; Alex O'Laughlin

I know you've been missing your weekly eye candy.

Hump Day Hottie is back... with a bang!

This week's hunk is Alex O'Laughlin from the amazing cop drama, Hawaii Five-0.

He can pretend to arrest me any day.

So, would you let him use his stun gun on you?

2011 Fall TV {New Shows}

We've established that I watch a lot of tv. Every year, I add new shows to my list. This year is no different. So far, I've only dumped two. I think I'll stick with the rest. Here's to hoping the ones I truly love don't get cancelled...

2 Broke Girls - It's not the funniest show I've ever seen, but I really like it. I've developed quite the crush on Max's character.

Whitney - If you watch Chelsea Lately, you're familiar with Whitney Cummings. I added her show simply because I love Chelsea. I liked the first two episodes, but started to lose interest in the third. I'm not giving up yet though. The guy who plays her boyfriend is hysterical. {Fun Fact: Whitney is co-creator of 2 Broke Girls.)

Up All Night - This sitcom stars Christina Applegate, Will Arnett and Maya Rudolph. I really wanted to like this show since it has such a great cast. After three episodes, I'm done. I feel like they're trying way too hard to be hip and funny.

Hart of Dixie - I added this show because I love Rachel Bilson. She's just so cute. Does anyone remember the movie Doc Hollywood with Michael J. Fox? This show is just like that. Bilson's character is a doctor from New York City who ends up practicing medicine in a small Alabama town. I hope enough people are watching because I love it.

Revenge - I didn't know anything about this show when I added it to my list. I added it because Emily VanVamp was on Brothers & Sisters. This show is a hot mess of drama. I can't wait to see how the story unfolds.

The Secret Circle - Since I love The Vampire Diaries, I figured I'd give this show about teenage witches a try. Both shows are based off a series of books by the same author. It's cheesy and good.

Ringer - Sarah Michelle Gellar plays twins. One's good. One's bad. Or maybe not. The Hero happened to be around when I watched the first one. Now, I can't watch it without him. We love it.

New Girl - I can't say enough about this one. Zooey Deschanel plays Jess, a lovable dork of a girl who moves in with three guys after her boyfriend cheats on her. This show brings the jokes. I pee from laughter every time I watch. If you're not watching New Girl, you're a loser.

Pan Am - Pan Am is getting rave reviews just not from me. I only watched one episode. I may have given up too soon, but I just wasn't interested enough to watch another. They introduced too many characters and stories, and most weren't that great. If you love this one, I'm sorry. I didn't.

Charlie's Angels - My opinion on this one is kind of meh. I don't love it. I don't hate it. I'm hanging tight since it is getting better each week. If it gets canned, I won't cry a river.

The X Factor - Last but not least, we have X Factor. I watched every single season of American Idol except for the last one. No Simon. No Paula. No thanks. Now, the duo is back with L.A. Reid and Nicole Scherzinger. I seriously love this show. I give it two thumbs up. The only complaint I have is that I cry at least once every time I watch.

So, what new shows are you watching this year?

What do you love?

What do you hate?
