I hate you, Red Solo Cup.

Do you know this song, Red Solo Cup, by Toby Keith? I seriously hate it. I think it's one of the dumbest and most obnoxious songs ever written. This isn't to say I'm not a fan of country music... because I am. I grew up listening to country music. I much prefer George Straight, Tim McGraw and Clay Walker though. I change the station whenever it comes on. A song about a plastic cup you drink beer from... Come on. Really?

Now a red solo cup is the best receptacle
For barbecues tailgates fairs and festivals
And you sir do not have a pair of testicles
If you prefer drinking from glass

Red solo cup I fill you up
Let's have a party let's have a party
I love you red solo cup I lift you up
Proceed to party proceed to party

Now I've seen you in blue and I've seen you in yellow
But only you in red will do for this fellow
Cuz you are the Abbot to my Costello
And you are the fruit to my loom

Terri is one of the weirdos who actually loves this song. She even had her son sing it to me when they came over Friday night. While she was here, we had a mini photo shoot with some Red Solo Cups. This is me... hating on the cup like it's going to give me an STD.

Tell me. Do you love this stupid ass song?

Well, I obviously think it is super ridiculous, but Toby Keith knows it is ridiculous. [Keith told CMT that it was "the stupidest song that I have ever heard in my life" but also "freakin' awesome."] So he knows it is ridic. I kinda like it for how dumb it is too!!!

I wiki and google everything ... my sources: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Solo_Cup

Love you with your cup though :)

I don't hate it, but I swear to you - every other mom of a little kid I know has a kid who LOVES it! I got yelled at my mine to stop singing along in the car, so HE could sing it! Toby Keith needs to offer up a free Toddler Tour, so he can just sing that song over and over, let the kids play with Red Solo Cups and let us moms drink wine in the back, haha!

i hate all country music...so this song would definitely follow suit.

I'd never heard of this song until they did it on Glee and I thought it was a spoof...I had NO idea it was an actual country song.

Yeah, I guess it kinda catchy but mostly weird.

I think the song is ridiculous but I can't help but love it! It's so catchy and ends up stuck in my head all the time but I still love it I sing it alllll day long! HAHA! :)

No. really. I'm not going to lie it's one of those songs that I hate, but find myself accidentally singing when I hear it.

But really - did Solo pay him to write this song or is he really just that terrible?

No, and the video is even WORSE!

I've only heard it once and that was on someone's blog. I have to like him because he's from Oklahoma but I DON'T have to like his music. When I heard it, I thought it was kind of funny!

That's a great pic of you with the SOLO. ;-)

I like it, it's definitely catchy. My son sings 'let's have some smarties' instead of let's have a party. Needless to say, it's one of his favs.

I don't keep up with pop music at all (and yes, I put this "country" song in that category), so the only way I hear popular music is on Glee, and that's how I first heard this song - come to think of it, that's the only way I've heard this song. And on Glee, I loved it! Thus, I liked the song and thought it was convivial and lighthearted and it brought back memories. But if I had first (or ever) heard the Toby Keith version I probably wouldn't like it either. Love the pic!

I'd never heard of this song until right now. After reading the lyrics, I pretty much hate the very day it was written.

it literally hurts my heart to admit that i know the words. and can't change it when it comes on.

it's like ke$ha....you KNOW it's wrong. you want to walk away. but it's so damn catchy.

then the shame comes.

I had never heard of it until they sang it on Glee this season (I'm not in Country music so that's probably why). I thought it was just meh, nothing special and kinda dumb but whatever! Apparently my dad can't stand it though, lol...

I must admit I agree with you that the song is stupid, but New Year's Eve I had the pleasure of watching my ultra conservative brother-in-law get wasted and periodically sing the chorus to that song, as he raised his red solo cup. It was hilarious! Now that song has a bit of meaning to me and makes me smile, but it's just the chorus that has that effect. I don't listen to country stations regularly, but if I were listening to one, and that song came on, I think I would still change the channel so I can just revel in my little memory.

i have a friend whose son started singing it, but he's a lover of Star Wars so he turned it into Hans Solo cup....much better version.

HATE. I haven't even heard the whole song and I know I hate it.

I actually do like this song. Hated it when it first came out, but then it just got to me!

I agree with you 100%... then again as you know I can't stand Toby Keith either. ;)

I'd heard of it, but didn't actually hear it until I saw it on Glee.

I think it's hilarious and I kind of love it... but that might only be because Chord Overstreet was singing it.

My coworkers whistle, hum it and sing it to each other every. Single. Day. This week and crack up laughing at themselves. I think I'm in hell :(
