Yes, I named my kid after Adam Sandler. No, I wasn't high.

Alright, stop whatcha doin'
Cause I'm about to ruin
The image and the style that ya used to

Even though I'm a mother of two, I don't blog about my kids a lot. I throw in a cute picture or story every once in a while, but have tried to avoid being labeled a "mommy blogger". Not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just not who I want to be. I'd rather talk about Jessica Simpson's ginormous boobs, a dress I can't afford or the latest thing that annoys me.

Today, I'm going to stray from the norm and blog about my kids. Don't worry. This post will still include cute pictures, a witty anecdote or two and celebrities. If you've followed my blog for some time, you've probably caught on to the fact that I call my kids Little Man and Little Bit. This changes today for several reasons. The main reason being that it's too hard to keep up. They have names I love, so I'm going to share them with all of you. Keeping their names off my blog isn't going to keep them safe from predators. THE GUN I OWN WILL DO THAT! Yes, you read that right, potential predators. The girl from Handbags & Handguns is armed. Er, duh.

Why don't we start off with a fun fact?

Both of my kids are named after CELEBRITIES.

Who here is surprised?

That's right. No one.

Little Man, my first born, is 7 years old. His name is Sandler Dain. I picked Sandler. The hubby picked Dain. He only agreed to Sandler if I promised we wouldn't actually call him that. So, the kiddo goes by his middle name, which will annoy him and his teachers for many years to come.

The name Sandler comes from actor and comedian Adam Sandler. People always give me the crazy side eye when I tell them. Oh, Sandler, that's different. Is it a family name? No, he's named after the guy who talks gibberish, sings about his red hooded sweatshirt and wears sweatpants on Letterman. You mean the guy from Happy Gilmore? That's the one!

Make fun all you want. I am not ashamed. Sandler rules!

Before we even got married, Tony and I saw a beach volleyball player win gold in the 2000 Summer Olympic Games. {Did you see how I threw that in there? The Hero's name is Tony.} The gold medalist's name is Dain Blanton. We both liked Dain. We also liked the original spelling. This is another thing he'll have to deal with his whole life. Dane, like the dog? No, it's D-A-I-N. Hopefully he'll grow up and choose to go by his first name because it's awesome.

Little Bit is 4 years old. Her name is Rory Addison. While pregnant with Dain, I started working on girl names for the future. Tony and I couldn't agree on anything. One day, he mentioned the name Rory. It was a name he was familiar with since I watched Gilmore Girls. He said he sort of liked it. I loved it and knew immediately this would be our daughter's name if we ever had one.

I just had to come up with a middle name. Then one day while watching an early season of Grey's Anatomy, it came to me. Addison! I said the two together out loud and that was that. A few years later when we found out we were actually having a girl, my mind couldn't be changed. And it's pretty great since she actually looks a lot like Rory Gilmore.

I've been in love with both of my kid's names since before they were even born. I wanted names that were different and original without being weird. Mission accomplished.

I love your kids names. And I love the unique without being weird, but then I named my kid Jolie and not after Brad's wife.

I am right there with you. I totally have a boy and girl name picked out, and I'm not even pregnant. It took forever for us to agree on anything. I've always liked the name Addison.
Love the gun comment, too, btw. :)

right now i'm in a book zone for my non-existent baby names, but i haven't convinced the hubs yet. and alllllllll the celebrities stole harper from me, so it got thrown out the window.

I tried to name our youngest 'Logan' - Rory Gilmore's boyfriend. It stuck for a week, until my husband veto'd it for Sean. Sigh. I was so close.
I adore your kiddos' names!! It's always fun to have a cool story attached to your name.
And a momma with a gun ... yup! It's how we roll!!

I love their names!

My son goes by his middle name, Neil, and you are absolutely right! The teachers/doctors/etc. are always calling him by his first name and misspelling Neil (Neal).

I seriously LOVE that you named your boy Sandler. Totally approve over here. I love Adam. And I love the name Rory too. Great names, for great kiddos!!!

Makes me feel better knowing that my husband has been vying for a certain celebs name for our first born son, if we have a son. It's totally growing on me, I just hope the family will love it. We considered making it his middle name, so that he'd have a "normal" first name and call him by his middle name instead. Giving him the choice in the future to pick either or.

I'm also a sucker for boy names for girls. Like Shane, James, Dylan. Etc.

I had no idea of the origins of their names - how fabulous!

Oh wow I love that you posted their names! Since you don't have your last name on your blog, I think that helps protect them still. That and your gun, you badass! :-)

I love their names, you did a great job with them. I have been wondering ever since we found out that Piglet is a boy if I'd keep the nickname going on the blog. It's kind of hard to picture me calling a young boy Piglet. It's fine for a baby, but when he gets older...hmm. I dunno-I'm still trying to decide.

Honestly, I love your children's names....love that you shared them here too, the names are SO you!

Sandler is a great name, the way you describe it, it just makes total sense - it's a shame that he's called by his middle name, even though that a great name too. Bet you are waiting for that day when he asks you to call him Sandler!!

And who wouldn't want to be named after the very beautiful & talented Addison Forbes Montgomery??!! I didn't know that Rory could be a girls name but I think her names sound great together :)

Your children are beautiful :)

I love your kids' names and I love that you decided to share them on your blog.

I totally thought Dain's name was Dain Sandler, instead of the other way around. I love Sandler as a first name!
