How to Dress for a Job Interview

I've been spending the last few weeks sending out resumes, waiting on call backs and interviewing. As we all know, interviewing sucks. What would your last boss say about you? What is your worst trait? Why should I hire you? Um, well... HIRE ME BECAUSE I AM AWESOME. If only it were that easy. One thing that is easy is dressing properly for an interview.

You can never go wrong with wearing a basic black suit to an interview. If you're a working girl, and by working girl I don't mean hooker, you need a properly fitted suit in your closet. A suit consists of a blazer, dress pants and/or a pencil skirt. In my opinion, you should have both.

Any interview outfit should be topped off with the right accessories. Personally, I always wear heels to interviews. If you do wear heels, basic pumps are the way to go. Leave your stripper shoes at home. Simple jewelry is fine. Just remember that you don't want to wear anything too distracting. You are there to obtain a job, not walk the runway.

Another interview outfit that's both simple and classic is a well fitted sheath dress and a pair of nude pumps. Dresses and skirts should be no more than a couple inches above the knee. Your boobs shouldn't be on display either. Covering the girls up is Interview Etiquette 101.

Last but not least, if dresses and skirts aren't your thing, a blue blouse, dress pants and patent pumps can go a long way. According to various studies, blue is a great color for interviews because the wearer exudes confidence. According to a lot of the same studies, red is a bad color to wear because it evokes too many emotions.

Regardless of what you wear, remember one thing:

This is brilliant and so smart to post. I think that many people have no clue what to wear. I think it's always important to be prepared and this is a great list.

And because I think of things this way, these are also great rules and ways to dress for Church. Odd I know, I don't go to church but when I do, I always remember these rules when getting dressed for a day at the chapel.

PS I've seen quite a few hooker like heels on church goers and "club church" gear out at lunch on Sunday mornings and I'm shocked!!! Why did that girl think that was even remotely appropriate? Isn't that special / Church Lady

Love all your outfit ideas! If I ever re enter the work force (loving the virtual office currently) then I will definitely need to update my wardrobe. I do think the sheath dress and pumps would come in handy for some of Matchs work functions though!
