How I Eat on Thanksgiving

I'll eat turkey, but I prefer ham.

I don't eat dressing, cranberry sauce or green bean casserole.

I love deviled eggs. I love pickles. However, I do not like pickles in my deviled eggs.

Basically, my Thanksgiving plate has ham, rolls, deviled eggs sans pickles, and mashed potatoes on it.

Yes, that's right. I eat like a small child.

And I don't care what you think.

In the end, it's not what's on my plate that matters as long as I'm with family.

From mine to yours, I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Now, can we get on to Christmas already!

2013 American Music Awards Fashion

The American Music Awards were this past weekend. I've missed it two years in a row now. Thankfully, there's recaps and videos online almost instantly. So, let's take a look at what some of our favorite or not so favorite artists wore this year.

LADY GAGA
I love this color on Ga. Very Rapunzel-ish, no?

KENDALL JENNER
She's really pretty, and this isn't so bad.

NICOLE RICHIE
I feel like the dress is too simple, and the necklace is too big.

EMMA ROBERTS
She looks pretty, but WTF is she wearing?!

CIARA
I don't see anything new here.

HEIDI KLUM
It looks like her dress got caught in a wood chipper.

JORDIN SPARKS
She's a gorgeous girl with gorgeous curves, but she's doing it wrong.

KE$HA
The dress isn't special, but I'm digging the cotton candy hair.

NAYA RIVERA
If only the keyhole cutout were a little bit smaller... It's just too much.

RIHANNA
Three Words: Garbage Bag Chic

KATY PERRY
I think I'd like this more if it didn't have giant flowers on it.

JENNIFER HUDSON
Love her hair. Love the colors. Almost love the dress.
Why the weird cutout-slit-thingie?

TAYLOR SWIFT
Love the color. Love the shimmer. Love the heels.
I don't love the chest triangle or the hair.

MILEY CYRUS
It could be worse.

CHRISTINA AGUILERA
This look isn't half bad, but will she ever get the memo about wearing too much makeup?

Mr. Timberlake was there too.

The 75th Hunger Games

Tonight, my girls and I will be attending the premiere of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Yes, that's right. We'll be in line with all the crazies. Who am I kidding? We are the crazies. This year, there isn't a midnight showing. We'll actually be seeing the movie at 8:00. Weird! I'm a little disappointed because I enjoy the late show. Regardless of the time, I am so excited to see the movie with my friends. I loved the books and thought the first movie was great. I can't wait to see how this one turns out.

And during today's commute, I'll be listening to the accompanying soundtrack. I downloaded it last night, and I'm already in love with Lorde's cover of Everybody Wants To Rule The World.

When are you seeing Catching Fire?

RIP Blockbuster

Before Netflix.. Before Hulu.. Before Amazon.. Before Redbox.. There was Blockbuster. Blockbuster rented out its final movie on Saturday, November 9 in Hawaii. I'll admit this news made me a little sad. Being a kid in the late 80s and early 90s, I have a lot of fond memories of the video store with the blue and yellow logo.

No one ever ran into Blockbuster, grabbed a movie and left. Going to pick out your movie(s) was an event. You were there for well over an hour, went down every aisle and looked at every new release at least twice. You always talked your parents into buying a few snacks. And, more often than not, you were in your pajamas.

I remember renting instructional cheerleading videos with fellow teammate Stacey. We went back to her house and mimicked the moves in her living room. I remember my first boyfriend Randall driving me to Blockbuster. We would walk around forever just to end up renting something we'd never watch. We were too busy making out. One time, he actually picked out The Adventures of Milo and Otis. To this day, I snort any time I think about this. Nine times out of ten, my mom picked a Julia Roberts movie. Seriously, how many times can one woman see Sleeping with the Enemy?

Fun Blockbuster Facts:

1985 - first store opened
1987 - won court case against Nintendo which paved the way for video game rentals
1990s - purchased by Viacom for $8.4 billion & expanded to the UK
2000 - turned down an offer to buy a one-year-old company called Netflix for $50 million
2005 - introduced online DVD subscriptions
2010 - filed for bankruptcy
2011 - acquired by Dish
2013 - closing all remaining US stores
Blockbuster's Final In Store Rental - 2013 comedy This Is the End

Now, if I want to watch a movie at home, it's quick and painless.

I ask you. What's the fun in that?

I Believe, Part II

One of my all-time favorite posts is a list of things I believe in. While I was laid up with bronchitis this past weekend, I decided to put together a second addition.

I believe karma is a real bitch.

I believe in midnight movie premieres.

I believe in sipping hot chocolate by the fire.

I believe in cheering loudly for your favorite team.

I believe in biting your tongue and being the bigger person.

I believe fear is a great motivator.

I believe in laughing so hard you snort.

I believe Christmastime is the best time.

I believe you can never have enough nail polish.

I believe my life is better because of Ellen DeGeneres.

I believe in believing in yourself.

I believe in sweet tea on hot days.

I believe in hitting the snooze button.

I believe in donuts on Sunday mornings.

I believe you can never watch Bring It On too many times.

I believe in looking at the stars.

I believe in self-tanner and bronzer.

I believe daisies are the happiest flower.

I believe in staying up late and sleeping in.

I believe in texting someone back. I know you read that shit.

I believe in daydreams.

I believe in forehead kisses.

I believe blogging is therapeutic.

I believe in checking things off a to do list.

I believe in watching Friends every night before bed.

Glossy Blonde

November 13, 2013

Let's discuss October in November.

Today is November 13. I guess it's as good a time as any to recap our busy October. There was soccer, football, homecoming, preschool open house, birthday shenanigans, and Halloween. Let's get started, shall we?

Rory scored an average of four to five goals per game this season. At four, she's already become quite the soccer player. Her preschool had open house. She's in the Funny Frogs class. Next year, this big girl will be in kindergarten.

We love Halloween around here. I decorated the house the first weekend of October. Some people think candy corn is gross. This family of four would completely disagree. And, as you can see, Hocus Pocus is a must this time of year.

With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, our boys and girls in blue rocked it out in pink. Dain had his first Homecoming. I made homecoming mums for the women in our family and escorted him onto the field.

There was popsicles at Nana's, a faux hawk haircut, visits from the tooth fairy, and outdoor fun with yummy cupcakes.

This cute kid turned eight. We bought football cupcakes for his class, ate lunch with him at school and had some fun at Chuck E. Cheese's. Seriously, how adorable is that toothless grin?

Dain plays on two football teams this year, junior varsity and varsity. The junior varsity boys had their championship game. As you can see by the medal around his neck, they won! The varsity championship is in two weeks. GO TIGERS!

This year's Halloween fun included a fall festival and trick-or-treating with friends and family. Dain was Chop Chop, a video game character from Skylanders. And Rory was the cutest Bat Girl you ever did see.

Last but not least, Terri and I celebrated with our best girl Jillian for her birthday. There was yummy food, cake, presents, balloons, and a trip to a local haunted house. I screamed a lot, but didn't piss my pants. I'd call that a success.

*After scheduling this post, I realized I already covered some of this back in October.
It's ok. I put a totally different spin on it this time.

The Talk of Tinseltown
2013 CMA Awards Fashion

I don't normally cover the Country Music Awards, but this year there were a lot of great dresses.

Miranda Lambert looks stunning in this cobalt Roberto Cavalli gown.
Love her Farrah Fawcett hair, makeup and earrings.

Taylor Swift is wearing a gown from Elie Saab's fall collection. I always love Taylor in red.
The dress is bigger than I prefer, but she still looks great.
I can't help but think of Christmas though.

Lucy Hale is in a dress from Julien Macdonald's spring 2013 collection.
She's so pretty, but I never like what she wears.
She should have worn strappy heels, not platforms.

Danielle Bradbery is a 17-year-old winner from The Voice. She's wearing a dress from
BCBG Max Azria with a diamond cut-out on the back. It's not half bad, but is it right for a teen?

Cassadee Pope is wearing a dress by Jovani.
Seen it. Over it.

Carrie Underwood is wearing Ralph & Russo Couture. I like the top half of the dress.
I hate dresses with sheer bottoms though and wish this trend would go away.
Line it, or cut the bottom off and rock it short.

Lauren Alaina is wearing Virgos Lounge.
I like the colors, but not the shape and styling.
Also, that's an unfortunate dye job.

Sheryl Crow is rocking this Ralph Lauren dress.
She has great shoulders, so it works.

I'm not digging Faith Hill in Lanvin.

This is Jana Kramer. I didn't know who she was, so I googled her. She's an actress and country singer who has two failed marriages under her belt that each lasted less than a year. She recently broke off her engagement with fellow country star Brantley Gilbert. The internet seems to paint a picture of a woman who is very unlucky in love. Well, guess who she's dating now... Clint Eastwood's hot son, Scott Eastwood.

Enough of that, back to the fashion... Jana is wearing a dress from Theia's fall collection.
Even though it has long sleeves and a billowing skirt, I kind of like it. It's pretty.

Connie Britton looks ok in this Georges Hobeika dress.
It's not my favorite, but it's not the worst either.

Kimberly Perry of The Band Perry looks stunning.
This Johanna Johnson dress is gorgeous.
And I do love a cap sleeve!

Colbie Caillat is wearing a mini dress from Nicole Miller.
Something about this doesn't work for me. I think it's her hair.

Kellie Pickler killed it in this Georges Chakra Couture gown.
Love the shape. Love the jewels. Love the hair and makeup.

Hayley Orrantia is in a colorful chiffon frock from House of Ronald.
I'm not a fan of prints, but somehow this works.
