When Harry Met Sally

I spent New Year's Eve at home with the kiddos. Since they were preoccupied with all the shiny things they got for Christmas, I was able to relax and watch a movie without interruption. I decided to pop in the When Harry Met Sally DVD I picked up on sale at Target a couple months back. Can you believe I'd never seen it before? Yes, I know. It's an absolute travesty.

Well, travesty no more! I watched. I laughed. I cried. I loved. It was a great romantic comedy without being too over-the-top cheesy. And little did I know, it was the perfect movie to watch on New Year's Eve since several pivotal scenes actually occur on the holiday. I definitely think watching When Harry Met Sally will become an annual tradition.

Jess: Marriages don't break up on account of infidelity. It's just a symptom that something else is wrong.
Harry: Oh, really? Well, that "symptom" is fucking my wife.

Sally: I have just as much of a dark side as the next person.
Harry: Oh, really? When I buy a new book, I read the last page first. That way, in case I die before I finish,
I know how it ends. That, my friend, is a dark side.

Harry: There are two kinds of women: high maintenance and low maintenance.
Sally: Which one am I?
Harry: You're the worst kind; you're high maintenance, but you think you're low maintenance.

Sally: Harry, you're going to have to try and find a way of not expressing every
feeling that you have, every moment that you have them.

Marie: All I'm saying is that somewhere out there is the man you are supposed to marry. And if you
don't get him first, somebody else will, and you'll have to spend the rest of your life
knowing that somebody else is married to your husband.

I can't believe you hadn't seen this before! It's a true classic and is my #1 favorite movie. I love the interviews with real couples interspersed between different scenes. "He rode up 9 extra floors" "You know the way you know about a good melon" There are too many great lines. So glad you liked it!

Wow - what a treat to have such a great film on your 'never watched' list and to have the chance to watch it now! I love this film - can find quotes from it that are relevant in everyday life all the time. Nora Ephron, who wrote it, was a genius! Happy new year. L x

Nora Ephron is a genius, her lines are so well written...I love that last one you've quoted...."somebody out there is married to my husband"!

Funny you should mention this movie....I watched it last week too, not sure how long since I first watched it but I had to order a new DVD copy as my old one was on videotape, that's how long it's been!

I loved watching it again & it made me laugh as much as ever, I think Billy Crystal is completely brilliant in it...Nora Ephron writes as well for men as she does for women I think.

I loved watching the development of their relationship & I also loved their friends in it too, great how they get together.

A similar film is "Forget Paris", with Billy Crystal & Debra Winger...a couple's relationship told in flashbacks by 3 couples who are their best friends, some really funny lines, I watched that again recently too.

Hope you had a great Christmas, Happy 2014!
