My Love-Hate RelAtionship with
Pretty Little Liars

When someone asks me what my guilty pleasures are, I usually laugh and say I don't have any. How can I not have any guilty pleasures? Well, a guilty pleasure is defined as something pleasurable that induces a minor feeling of guilt. I don't really feel guilty about any of the stupid things I love.

Then it hit me one night after I yelled at the tv. Pretty Little Liars is my guilty pleasure. I binge watched the first two seasons one summer and have watched the rest as they air. And every single week, I wonder why I continue to watch this crap.

Pretty Little Liars is a teen drama loosely based on a popular series of novels written by Sara Shepard. The show is set in fictional Rosewood, Pennsylvania and follows the lives of four girls after the disappearance of their friend. After their friend vanishes, the girls start receiving mysterious messages from a person known only as "A", who threatens to expose all of their secrets.

Why I Love PLL

1. Lucy Hale
Lucy is actually the reason I started watching the show. She's from Memphis, Tennessee, and like, I know her. Her sister used to work for me back in my tanning salon days. Lucy and her mom used to come in to tan. So, yeah, I totally know her.

2. The girls
They're all so pretty. I love their shiny hairs and fabulous clothes.

3. The boys
They're really pretty too. I'm particularly liking Ezra this season. And can we talk about the addition of Sean Faris? Good Lord, he's hot. And I don't have to feel guilty about my crush because he's 31.

4. The suspense
I enjoy a good mystery and trying to figure things out.

Why I Hate PLL

1. Alison DiLaurentis
The show is centered around Ali and her mysterious disappearance. I don't know why anyone was ever friends with her. She's a big ol' bitch, and I strongly dislike any scene she's in.

2. The parents
These teens have the worst parents. They're almost never around. And, when they are there, they have no idea what their kids are up to. This is a common theme in tv shows these days, and I hate it. I miss Clair and Cliff Huxtable.

3. The clothes
Yes, the clothes are on my love and hate list. I love the clothes because I'd like to have them hanging in my closet. I hate the clothes because they're mostly ridiculous for high school girls to wear in class.

4. We still don't know who "A" is.
But wait, I thought we found out that so-and-so is "A"! We did, but I'm not buying it. Every season, they take us through a series of plot twists and turns leading up to a big finale reveal. At the beginning of the next season, we find out that what we thought we knew isn't completely accurate. Not for one second do I think this story is over, and that is why I continue to watch this dumb show.

I have my thoughts on who I think "A" really is. I'll share them later in a separate post.

I love/hate PLL for all the same reasons. I read all the books before the show started (Well now, 3 or 4 more have been written. I haven't read those.) so I feel like I have to see it through to the end.

I've never watched a single minute of this show. And now I'm pretty sure I won't start.

I hear good things about this show but I'm always reluctant to become addicted to new shows sop I haven't watched it. I remember seeing Lucy Hale on this reality singing show called American Juniors when she was like 10 or 12 or something then I saw her on that show and I was like-she made it!! I think she's the only one that did.

Same here for all of them and Im almost 40! Like what in the world is wrong with me that Im biting my nails every week thinking what in the world are they gonna come up with next. I agree with the parents I mean come on, I was in high school and it wasn't like that at all and the clothes....Im lucky if I still fit in my sisters hand-me-downs let alone buying heels to wear to school!

I couldn't resist reading this even though I just started watching season 1 of PLL. Thanks for not sharing any spoilers... although I kind of clicked because I WANTED spoilers. I'm already tiring of the mystery of "A" after about 8 episodes... I'm a little disappointed to learn that all these seasons later it's still the same mystery and the girls are still in high school (??? really??!!). Is it worth continuing?

I've never been able to get into PLL, and I really tried once. Usually I love this kind of stuff, but I just can't get with it.

1. Jealous that you know Lucy. 2. I am so back and forth with the show. Just tell us who A is and get on with it!

I watched it for a season-- or a half of season? And it was addicting even though I had no idea what was going on-- I agree I like the clothes but I'm like ummm who wears this stuff to highschool?? And so cool you know Lucy!!

I've totally been suckered into PLL myself, and when I was catching up with this week's episode this AM, I found myself thinking that the girls seem to skip school quite a bit, which annoys me...

Yes, I think I'll just go ahead and agree with all of this! But it is so frustrating some times!

I feel the same way about guilty pleasures. Nothing makes me feel that bad. I own all the crap I like. I started watching this show from day one and love/hate it too. I still have 6 episodes to catch up on though!
